WGR NEARS GOLD PRODUCTION WITH PROMISING TESTS

Heap Leach Pathway Emerges as Cost-Effective Option

Western Gold Resources Limited (ASX:WGR) has taken a significant step towards becoming a gold producer following encouraging results from metallurgical test work on historic ore stockpiles at the Gold Duke Project. The tests, focusing on both Heap Leach and Carbon-in-Leach (CIL) processing, have revealed potential for a low capital expenditure gold operation, particularly favoring the Heap Leach approach.

Key Findings from the Metallurgical Test Work:

  • Heap Leach Amenability: Column leaching of composite feed grade ore (0.7-0.8g/t Au) achieved 52.9% recovery in 51 days, projecting a 71% Au extraction within 70 days. Under standard operational conditions, an extraction rate of around 80% is expected within a typical 90-day cycle.
  • CIL Amenability: A high-grade oxide ore sample (approximately 2 g/t) achieved 95.3% gold extraction under standard CIL conditions. The tailings were environmentally non-hazardous, and cyanide speciation after the test contained minimal Weak Acid Dissociable (WAD) species.

Warren Thorne, WGR Managing Director, remarked on the significance of these findings:

WGR has been investigating the optimal pathway to production at the Gold Duke project. The preliminary column leach test gold recoveries suggest that Gold Duke oxide ore is amenable to low-cost, low-capex heap leach techniques. A heap leach would mean that WGR would not need to construct a mill, nor share revenue with external parties for toll treatment in a mill. This is a highly desirable outcome to deliver value to both the Company and our shareholders.
